Course Overview

The Faculty of Pharmacy at Bahçeşehir Cyprus University (BAU Cyprus) offers a comprehensive five-year program designed to cultivate highly qualified pharmacists who are adaptable, inquisitive, and capable of taking on significant responsibilities in the healthcare sector. Established in the 2023-2024 academic year, this program is conducted entirely in English and spans ten semesters, integrating compulsory and elective courses, laboratory practices, a graduation project, and traineeships. 

Program Structure and Curriculum:

The curriculum is meticulously crafted to provide students with a robust foundation in pharmaceutical sciences and practical skills. Key components include:

• Basic Sciences: The initial years focus on fundamental subjects such as chemistry, biology, and physiology, establishing a solid groundwork for advanced pharmaceutical studies.

• Pharmaceutical Courses: Subsequent semesters delve into specialized topics like pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, and clinical pharmacy, emphasizing the development, preparation, and application of medications.

• Laboratory Practices: Hands-on laboratory sessions are integral, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge, conduct experiments, and develop essential technical competencies.

• Elective Courses: A selection of electives enables students to explore areas of personal interest within the pharmaceutical field, fostering a tailored educational experience.

• Graduation Project: In their final year, students undertake a research project, encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent research skills.

• Traineeships: Practical training in diverse settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, and the pharmaceutical industry, provides real-world experience and professional exposure.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will:

1. Be proficient in preparing chemical solutions and determining the quantity and quality of compounds using various chemical methods and instrumental techniques.

2. Understand and be capable of preparing different drug dosage forms, such as tablets, capsules, and injectables.

3. Have knowledge of medicinal plants and pharmaceutical products, enabling them to assess the advantages and disadvantages of their use.

4. Comprehend drug interactions, adverse effects, dosage monitoring, and possess knowledge of toxic components, drug toxicology, and analysis techniques.

5. Be familiar with the preparation, raw materials, formulations, and production techniques of cosmetic products.

6. Have a thorough understanding of human anatomy and physiology.

7. Be knowledgeable in pharmaceutical and medical terminology, deontology, pharmacy management, and ethics.

8. Understand microorganisms and be aware of methods to prevent microbial contamination.
